St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital

St. Judes is a hospital in Memphis, TN dedicated to curing cancer in children. I love St. Judes because they never turn any child away.Children from unisured families receive the same care as children from wealthy families. It was founded by Danny Thomas, who was in show business his entire life, beginning as a Vaudeville performer. At one point in his career, he was down to a few dollars and really needed an acting job. He promised to honor St. Jude, the "saint of the impossible", if the saint would help him to get a job. He kept his promise by founding the hospital with the "impossible" goal of curing childhood cancer. Since it opened in 1962, survival rates have increased dramatically. For instance, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia had a survival rate of 4% in 1962. Now it is 94%. I would donate money because donations are their primary source of funding. Many doctors simply donate their time. They have 5700 active patients from all 50 states and around the world. I would love to spend 6 months supporting these amazing kids and their families. Their courage is humbling.

  1. I do not have children but I have a nephew and two nieces that I have grown very attached to. I am glad there are people out there dedicated to helping others so if anything does happen to them I know they have access to the care they need!
