If I could give 20,000 dollars and my free time to own chairity, it would have to be the American Red Cross. This organization not only helps The United States, but several countries from around the world. It's main focus is to help those in need, whether it be recent natural disaster victims, or starving children in third world countires. Anyone can make a difference, the click of a mouse button can save the lives of many overseas with a simple donation. Taking a few minutes to clean out your old clothes and donate them can make all the difference in the world to a freezing community elsewhere. Something as simple as donoting blood (something I have yet to accomplsih due to my fear of needles...) can help prevent life-threatening accidents for patients of your same blood type.
As well as donations, volunteering is also a big part of the American Red Cross. According to their website, "Volunteers constitue 96 percent of our total work force to carry on our humanitarian work." Volunteer jobs vary from comforting recent house fire victims, to delivering urgent messages to soldiers in the Armed Forces overseas. Giving to others always redeems a gratifying feeling in the end, and you'll be happy you did so.
The Red Cross comes to my old high school every year and one year when they came my best friend and I gave blood even though I'm deathly afraid of needles. I felt good after giving blood not only because I got to skip math but because I felt like I had actually made a difference. My friend currently still gives blood as often as she can.
ReplyDeleteThe Red Cross does have a tremendous impact with various causes. Like Kelly said, you could see a lot of students at school willing to help with blood drives and other functions. It's too bad a certain sport practice kept me from donating before a game.
ReplyDeleteThe Red Cross is so important. It's important to give when you are able, as you never know when you night need some help.
ReplyDeleteI donate every time I get a chance and I think that it is almost selfish not to. For an hour or so out of your day you can literally save a life. Great cause.
