Autism Speaks

If I had 20,000 dollars to donate I would donate it to the autism speaks foundation. This organization focuses on raising awareness and money to aid those with autism. “They are dedicated to funding global research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism; to raising awareness about autism.” The numbers of individuals who have some form of autism is growing, and we do not know why. With the help of Autism Speaks we can look to the future and find a cure, or if not a cure, when we can learn more on how to aid those with the disorder.

I feel a personal attachment to this foundation because my cousin was diagnosed with autism. He has difficulty learning and is home schooled with a teacher who knows about him and his disorder. With the help of his mother, Marci Ingram, we were able to host a walk at the Shottenstein Center raising money for this organization. I actually took part in this walk and it was pretty amazing how many people showed up to show their support. With my time I would do whatever work I could for the organization. There is a difference between just donating your money and actually doing hands on work. Money is appreciated but you gain an attachment when you actually participate.

Here is video of Autism Speaks in our local community.

  1. This hit home with me because my mom works with 4 autistic kids every day in Worthington Schools. She loves those kids even though they are a handfull and they love her back because she knows just how to work with them.
