A Charity That I Believe In

The Need I see in American society is the need to help children with cancer and obscure illnesses so therefore I would work for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I would be more than willing to donate my time and money to such a wonderful and selfless cause. St. Jude is the leading children's non-profit research center that focuses on catastrophic and debilitating diseases. It was founded in 1962 by actor Danny Thomas. Danny was struggling with his career when he knelt before St. Jude at a Catholic church and said: "Show me my way in life and I will build you a shrine." He believed that God had answered his prayers and he moved his family to Chicago to pursue career opportunities. In 1957, Danny formed the American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities. (ALSAC) which is also the fundraising organization of St. Jude.
The reason I picked St. Jude is because I have a friend who is very dear to me that has a child with T.R.A.P.S. (Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha Receptor Associated Periodic Syndrome). TRAPS is a very rare syndrome. Some of the thirteen symptoms are usually high recurring fevers, abdominal pains, joint and muscle aches and puffy eyes. On top of this he has seizures and unexplained blood on his brain. His mother has struggled for the past four years with proper diagnosing the issues with pre-school and him always being sick on top of watching over someone who is epileptic, and the issues with her jobs as she struggles to keep them and take care of her constantly ill son. As I watch her fight for her son to live, I would give anything to help alleviate her and her son's pain.
