Acceptance: Blindness of Race and Color

The quote I chose comes from page 73 in Chapter 7. Before this exact quote, Greg is getting ready to leave for Korphe where he plans to build the school. He has all of the material he needs loaded into a rented truck and right before he leaves Abdul performs a dua, or a prayer for safe journey. The actual quote I chose comes from Abdul, describing Greg.
"I think not a Bosnian, Greg Sahib," he said, pounding Mortenson on the back. "Nowadays, you are the same as a Pakistan man."
The reason why I chose this quote is simple when you read my title, it shows complete acceptance of someone who is different. This shows that Abdul has completely accepted Greg as one of his own, seeing no difference in their races or skin color. No matter how Greg presented himself, like almost knocking over the statue at the tailors', Abdul has accepted him as a friend and fellow Pakistan countryman. In a way, this also shows what Greg wants, peace. Abdul was able to accept someone from a different way of life as a friend and equal human. If more people were like Abdul, maybe this world would know peace.

  1. Agreed. This definately shows the difference of race becoming completely obsolete which is very important for Greg to continue to get help from the Pakistani people.

  2. I agree, this was probably a very big moment for Greg. Being a complete stranger in a new world, it must have felt great to be finally accepted into their society. I do agree, Greg does want peace, and he achieves this by helping create schools.
