So many lives lost
So many families broken
So many letters exchanged
With little words spoken.
We go there to help
Extremists come here to destroy
We hope and pray
Loved ones won’t be deployed
We try to live
Each day like our last
But time speeds by
Like a bullet, so fast
He fought so hard,
But he didn’t survive
His family mourns
As they say goodbye.
To the son they loved
With all their hearts
His death for his country
Tore the family apart.
Like broken glass
The family shattered
His death soon taught them
Love is all that matters
And so you see
In the end
What only matters
Is how time is spent
With the ones you love.

Being deployed twice I have seen other soldiers' families fall apart while they were gone. It is tough to see and hope I learn from their experiences to keep from going through it myself someday.
ReplyDeleteHey Miranda,
ReplyDeleteI really liked your poem! It really touches the heart. I loved the the very first stanza how it rhymes perfectly andhow it sounded! It really makes you think how howrrible it must be to lose some1 you love. And even though they're saving lives of others, they're giving up theirs which tears other families apart.
