Walking down the street,
There are many unique people to meet,
All from countries far and wide,
Here in America they have nothing to hide.
Mario flips his pizza high,
Achmed’s cab picks up passersby,
Pedro’s burrito sizzles to perfection,
Sarah lies out to complete her complexion.
These stereotypes are like knives,
They cut and slice and ruin lives,
Some say words are as hard as rocks,
But everyone is equal when they hit the docks.
Here Mario and Achmed can walk hand in hand,
There are no worries in this marvelous land,
Your race, your skin color, and even your gender,
None of it matters in this cultural blender.

When I read the first few lines, it almost sounded like you were putting down other cultures but at the end I can tell you're not. I agree that it is important to be able to mix cultures in America so people can be accepting of other cultures besides their own.
ReplyDeleteReally cool poem! Good rhymes!
ReplyDeleteI loved how you really "blended" the cultures together in this poem. The stereotype lines are really good too. They point the faults that our country has even though we really are equal.
ReplyDeleteThe rhyming that the hook pulled off was amazing but I can't help but think of a blender as a destructive force. It why I never liked the melting pot metaphor, the ingredients are just as important as the final product in this case. America is the sum of it parts and never a whole.
