From Africa To U.S

In America, I felt I was welcome since I came
In America, I miss my family.
In America, I go to Somali restaurant for a food.
That reminds about being in Somalia.

In America everybody is in rush.
In America each person works at high speed.
In America all the people are busy even if they don’t have a job.
In America everybody sleeps five hours a day including weekends.
In America, everybody is tired on Mondays and happy on Fridays.

In American the weather changes as frequently as chameleon change
when they migrate into new environment.
In America, food tastes delicious, just like how some women smell funny.
In America, the snow hurts old people and slows everyone else down.
In America, all people are immigrant.
Yet earlier immigrants think they are better than the later one.
The Irish were immigrants, yet they suffered from discrimination when they first
Entered in the U.S.
The hope is that everybody is equal and has the same opportunity.

  2. i thought this poem was a really good view on America from an outsider's point of view and even though it was humerous, it was all very true

  5. This poem is a real and humorous look at life as an immigrant. Many true observations that seem like a normal part of life sound much different from an immigrant's point of view

  6. Very nice poem. I think too many people around the world have negative views of America or take things for granted. It was refreshing to see someone who moved here from another country and could see the good in it, like Fridays.
