“America is a Place…”
By: Vladimir Villarroel
America is a place....
where my Mother & Father once came to from very far
in hopes of a new and better start
where they knew that if you believe
all your dreams you can achieve
where they took what little they could bring
and turned it into a dream
where they did something so grand
as letting me be born in this great land
where my brothers and I were able to have
all the opportunities they never had
a place where we could laugh and run
and have dreams as bright as the shining sun
and although sometimes we couldn’t see
what they wanted us to see
that we had opportunities as big
as the wide and open sea
now I see it nice and bright
what they told us was indeed right
that we should never take for granted
all the things that we were handed
but instead turn them into something great
as a way to appreciate
all the hard work that they did
to come to a place like this
a place where I now know I can achieve
all my dreams if I believe
where my Mother & Father came to from very far
in hopes of a new & better start
a place that I can now call home
and proudly say that I am from
and be thankful to God for all the wonderful things I own
a place called “America”

What emotional poet. I felt like you were talking about me.
ReplyDeleteReally great! My great grandparents came to America with the same dreams. The poem really expresses the American opportunity.
ReplyDeleteOne of the best aspects of our great country and our progression is how it provides many of us an opportunity that our relatives were not fortunate enough to have. Make good use of yours.
ReplyDeleteThis poem clearly shows the American dream.
ReplyDeleteThank you guys for all the nice comments and advise! Glad you guys liked it!
